Arranging a Funeral

Please contact Fr Anthony at the Chapel House if you need to arrange a funeral. Even if it has been some time since you or the deceased had any contact with the church, please be assured that our parish will welcome you and do all they can to assist with the funeral arrangements.

Times

Funeral Masses at St. Catherine’s are usually celebrated at the 9.30am daily public Mass.

Reception of the body

The body of the deceased is traditionally received into the church the evening before the Funeral Mass, at an agreed time.  This is a short service, usually attended only by close family and friends.

Readings for the Funeral Liturgy

Readings are taken from the Bible; a first reading, usually taken from the Old Testament.  A Responsorial Psalm and a second reading taken from the New Testament.  Generally, Father Anthony will choose the Gospel but please speak to him if you have a particular preference.

Music & Hymn Choice

There are normally four hymns at a Funeral Mass: an entrance hymn, an offertory hymn, a Communion hymn and a recessional hymn. Father Anthony will be happy to discuss this with you.

Only sacred music is permitted at a Funeral Mass.

"Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though he dies, will live, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die."
